and dirty clothing enough
for your sorrows,

Stop washing more clothes mamaku
stop scouring against that rock,
it doesn’t hold your sadness
stop hurting your hands mamaku
these clothes are just¬ dirty tatters,
not my punishment.

Leave it now mamaku,
I beg you
let your tears transform into foamy water
and this wretchedness in the air pursues me
relentlessly
Stop twisting those clothes, no more wringing,
it does no good.
these waters cannot free you from your pain.

Leave it now, leave that timeworn rock
it cannot speak,
leave its pores to guard you laments
speak no more to it.
Leave it now mamaku, for the rain carries on.

1“Indias”, de José Clemente Orozco, en la exposición “MEXIQUE-1900-1950”, que se realizó entre 2016-2017, en el Grand Palais, de París. Al hallarme con este cuadro, quedé sin argumentos, estremecido con tanta belleza, amor y dolor. Me dio la impresión de que la imagen de la mujer del primer plano y yo andábamos buscándonos desde nuestros orígenes para hallarnos precisamente allí. Habíamos recorrido caminos desconocidos, habíamos sufrido tanto, para encontrarnos aquel día. Hasta entonces tenía escrito uno que otro poema en quechua pero con traducciones libres al español o intercalando estrofas en español como en el poema “Invocación de Aqaymarka Apu”. Este encuentro fue iluminador. Súbitamente sentí la necesidad de descargar la emoción del encuentro en un poema que se hicieron poemas. El resultado es un breve corpus de poesía quechua inédito y sin traducción. “Warmi”, proviene de ese corpus. Los chinli harawi (variaciones de haiku) son de reciente creación y responden a la necesidad de renovar la poesía quechua y a su vez de enriquecerla. Tanto “Warmi” como los chinlikuna fueron escritos en París. “Invocación de Aqaymarka Apu” corresponde a un libro inédito de los noventas.

Oh mallow root, mallow root
